Beach-ing with Kids Essentials

We just got back from a few days at the beach with our family and let me tell you - the beach with 2 toddlers is not for the faint of heart! I’ve learned that you just have to be okay with being sandy, and it not being as relaxing as it used to be! Still, it’s so fun to see how much they love the sand, making sand castles, and watching the waves and seagulls! Since I had been thinking about a packing list, I decided to compile it here. I’m hoping it’s helpful to someone, but I am also planning on using it for my own future reference the next time we go to the beach!

  1. Swimsuits - I find most of mine at the thrift store, but I have bought the boys cute matching ones from H&M and put them in their Easter baskets before!

  2. Beach wagon - we have found that with kids, this is almost essential. It’s so nice to be able to throw everything in the wagon - chairs, umbrellas, bags, and kids, instead of having to carry everything!

  3. Sunscreen - I found a few non-toxic suncreens that we like, and that work! They are linked here!

  4. Water bottles and electrolytes - my favorites linked here!

  5. Beach tent - we didn’t use ours this year, but it’s so nice to have when you have a tiny baby you are wanting to nurse while on the beach! It gives you some privacy and is also the perfect place for your baby to nap! Ours is linked to this list!list

  6. Sun hats & sunglasses

  7. Snacks - I recently jumped on the “snackle box” trend, and it is worth the hype! My kids love having their own little charcuterie board of sorts!

  8. Sand toys - ours are a hodge podge of costco, thrift store, and leftover sand toys from when I was a kid!

  9. Stroller - we didn’t take ours this year because we didn’t have the room in our vehicle, and I MAJORLY regretted it! The beach house we stay in is right along the boardwalk, and we walked constantly. The kids got tired so fast (especially after a long day in the sun!) and we ended up carrying them most of the time. I decided to NEVER go to the beach without a stroller again!

  10. Kindle - obviously this isn’t a “necessity” but I would much rather take my kindle out to the beach than a regular book! Especially with kids when you are setting your book down constantly to help them, it’s way easier! You don’t have to worry about losing your page, or getting sand in the pages! Mine is almost 10 years old at this point, but I added a similar one here!here
