5 Tips for your upcoming family session

Yay! I am so excited that you decided to document this special time in your family’s life and do a family session! Your kids are only at this age & stage once, and I love that you are choosing to preserve that through photographs! If your session is coming up, here are a few tips and tricks I’ve found to be helpful:

1. Set expectations.

If you have older children, let them know what to expect and what you expect from them. (session will be 30-45 minutes long, etc.) If you have younger children, get them excited the day leading up to your session! (We get to have our pictures taken tonight! YAY!)

2. Make it fun!

I love when families decide to go out to eat or out for ice cream after their session! This will also help your younger children to smile if they know they will be rewarded later!

3. Bring clean, dry snacks along.

This is great for 1-3 year olds especially. You can reward them throughout the session for smiling for the camera!

4. Don’t come hungry!

Make sure everyone is well fed before the session — It’s hard to smile when your stomach is hungry!

5. Bring back-up outfits.

It’s a great idea to bring an extra outfit, especially if you have really young children. You never know when your toddler is going to get muddy!
